Oktoih Day
There is no festival on this day. But 4 January is a date worth remembering in Rijeka Crnojevića.
Two days at Žabljak Crnojevića, the fortress the Crnojevićs held before they moved to Obod.
Before Obod, there was Žabljak. Žabljak Crnojevića is a fortress and an earlier capital. Ivan Crnojević ruled Zeta from 1465 to 1490. In 1478 Žabljak fell to the Ottomans, and Ivan moved his seat to Obod, above today’s Rijeka Crnojevića. Obod was his capital only briefly, around 1478–1482, before he moved his court to Cetinje. The story of the village is closely tied to that move.
The Days of Žabljak Crnojevića were held on 26–27 September 2026. The event is run by TO Cetinje, the Cetinje tourist organisation. We do not have the full programme.
Žabljak Crnojevića is not in the village. Like most places around the lake, it is reached mainly by boat or by car. Another Crnojević place in the area is Kom monastery, built in 1415–1427 by Đurađ and Lješ Crnojević, with 15th-century frescoes. Read more about both on our nearby page.
Read the story of Ivan Crnojević and his town in the Crnojević dynasty and Obod. Then walk up to Obod hill, where the ruins of his fortress still stand. For future dates, see our events page.
