Days of Žabljak
Two days at Žabljak Crnojevića, the fortress the Crnojevićs held before they moved to Obod.
In early to mid September, the riverside walk becomes a place for music, fish and wine.
Picture a September evening on the riverside walk: fish to taste, wine to try, and music over the water as the light fades. That is Riječka noć, “Rijeka Night”, the village’s own evening festival.
Riječka noć brings fish and wine tasting and concerts to the riverside walk. It is run by Cetinje municipality together with its tourist organisation, TO Cetinje. The event has been held since at least 2015.
It suits the place. In the 19th and early 20th centuries, Rijeka Crnojevića was Montenegro’s main lake port and market. For one evening, the riverside is busy again.
Fish has fed this village for a long time. In 1899 dried bleak (ukljeva) was its main export, and the river and the lake still hold more than 40 species of fish, among them carp, bleak and eel.
The date changes from year to year, so keep an eye on our events page. The date for 2027 has not been announced yet.
Parking is free at the village entrance (getting there). There is no direct bus, so plan your way home before you come. Bring cash: we could not confirm an ATM in the village (practical information).
Curious about the fish of the river? See our nature page. For the wines of the area, see wine.
