Spring and autumn

We suggest April to June and September to October. It is not as hot as in midsummer, and there are fewer people. If you come in September, look at the events page first: you may catch a festival on the riverside.

Summer

July and August bring crowds and heat. Parking at the village entrance is free, but arrive before 11:00 (parking tips). The small parking area at Pavlova Strana is often full by about 9:00 on summer weekends.

Mist and morning light at Pavlova Strana

The view of the horseshoe bend from Pavlova Strana changes with the seasons. Mist is most likely in October and November, and again in March and April. For photos, go early: the light is at its finest between 6:30 and 8:30.

Water levels and floods

Skadar Lake covers about 370 km² in summer and up to 540 km² in winter. Here the water can rise fast. On 10 January 2026 the level went up 28 cm in one day and flooded the riverside walk. If you come in winter, check the local news before you set off and keep away from flooded paths. Read our news post on the January 2026 high water.
